Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries is an action game set in the Battletech universe. It was the last official Mechwarrior release until the release of Mechwarrior Online.
Take the role of Spectre, a male mercenary BattleMech pilot travelling inside the fictional interstellar region of the Battletech universe called the Inner Sphere during the FedCom Civil War. Earn cash and useful salvage from completing mission contracts for various factions. With these resources, purchase new weapons and BattleMechs, pay for ‘Mech repairs, and hire additional MechWarriors for his or her company.
Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries has been released as freeware, and is a great game for both single player and multiplayer (especially LAN). You can download it from one of the following links:

every time I find a copy of this, it has the same bugg, virus infected exe file. I haven’t checked these, but be wary of it. Best thing I found to do is download the files like this and before running the game after installing it, replace the exe with one from the original disc just to be sure.
It can definitely happen. No-cd exes are sometimes flagged by certain antiviruses as being malware. These are often a false positive though so it’s a judgement call.
I have played the game for several years without having the executable flagged as malware and I’m using Sophos Antivirus. I believe some of my friends have Avast and they haven’t had issues either but it’s always good to be safe.

I’ve downloaded lots of stuff from myabondonware so I tend to trust them more. Most of the downloads will be .zip thought. Just unzip and run the executable.
