Haegemonia invisible ships and planets

Even with the latest patch for the game, Haegemonia is known to have an odd issues with loading save files. The most common issue seems to be invisible ships and planets after loading the save. It might look something like this (note how you can see through planets by looking through the ships):

From the limited remaining resources out there, the issue appears to be caused by a single file: starfield.mat. The file appears to still be in an uncompiled format which is why it causes this issue. To fix this issue:

  1. Download the invisible ships and planets fix (aka patch ‘1.10’). This patch contains the compiled version of the starfield.mat file.
    Starfield fix <– local mirror
    Starfield fix <– game front
  2. Replace your starfield.mat file with the patched version. Extract the zip and locate the contained starfield.mat file and copy paste it over yours. Your starfield.mat file will be located in Hegemonia\Shaders\Materials.

I did not create this patched version of the starfield.mat file, but from what I’ve read, it was taken directly from the Solon Heritage (expansion) where it was properly compiled.

If you’ve followed the above steps and are still having issues with the Haegemonia invisible ships and planets glitch, please post in the comments below. To increase your chances of a solution being found include as much detail as possible (which version of the game you’re running, what operating system you have, what video card you have and steps to reproduce the issue). Screenshots are also very useful!
