Homeworld 2 suffers from an annoying flaw than can allow you to set your resolution to one that is wider than your screen – cutting off the buttons needed to change the resolution back. The maddening result will look something like this:
If for whatever reason you find that you’ve ended up in this unhappy place and made your Homeworld 2 resolution too wide for your screen and can’t change it back anymore, try following these steps:
- Right click on your Homeworld 2 shortcut and select properties
- In the target field add the following options after the location of the .exe file:
-w 640 -h 480
e.g. “C:\Program Files\Homeworld 2\Bin\Release\Homeworld2.exe” -w 640 -h 480. This will force your game to run at a low resolution which should fit on any modern screen. - Start the game from this shortcut. Once the game starts change the resolution in-game to the one you want and make sure to remove these options from your shortcut when you’re done otherwise they will continue to force the game to run at this low resolution.
See hw2wiki for a full list of command line parameters. You can also check relicnews for related posts: post 1 post 2
If you’re still having issues changing the resolution please post the steps you’ve followed and what the result is!
Thanx for help.
I cant do this, because I have the remastered edition, meaning the icon is not on my desktop. help please?
If you’ve installed the game through steam you can still create a shortcut simply by going to your steam/steamapps/common/(HomeworldRemastered?) directory and creating a shortcut directly to that .exe and applying necessary changes to that.
You can also use steam’s launch options instead of modifying the game shortcut: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1040-JWMT-2947
whats the target field?
when i right click on my shortcut there is no shortcut tab and no target field? im running my game on steam.
Steam shortcuts aren’t direct shortcuts to the .exe. To set launch options for steam, follow these instructions instead: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1040-JWMT-2947
OMG I would kiss you if I could
10x dude, you just made my week
Happy to hear it :D
when I tried to do it, I got an error message saying the to ensure the file existed or it could find the path
even i had the same problem…. but then i realized that there is space between the file name and -w 640 -h 480
Thank you so much! works perfect!
Well, I’ve tried but it still goes and starts oddly and i can’t get it to work, I even tried the bottom link you posted.
Can you paste here exactly what you have in the target field of your shortcut?
